Midnight Mike

Back in December when i took my bike apart, the intention was to change a couple things here and there. But like most scatter brains, I decided everything could use a make over or a good freshening up. My transmission has always been good on the bike, with the exception of a few cosmetic issues from past repairs. It was a 47 trans I got from my buddy that Rick Lewis put together for me a couple years ago. The drum was falling off, causing me not to shift through gears one time when we went to the Gasser drag races, but that was my fault. Anyway's, I decided to get another case, lid and kicker to build another, one with no big aluminum gobs and free spinning studs. After finding some surprisingly good old Harley cases, I asked Mike to help me make it a running transmission, and he did just that. Mike is very meticulous when it comes to this stuff, which he hasn't been doing all that long. He just got really in depth with reading material and bought a few specialty tools and knocked out a couple transmissions here and there. His he did on his Shovelhead got him to Virginia and back no problem, and he likes to test them out thoroughly at home before giving them back. Oh, and he likes to text ALOT of photo updates which is great too. Thanks again Mike and Matt. Just a shell
Then, Polish, a check of all internals, ordering new internals, and assembly.

Needed to share these

Just some more amazing photos from an old biker's collection. Most of his buddies who built and rode some of the bikes below have passed on by now. It is sad to know that's what happens eventually, because in these photos, you know that was the last thing on anyone's radar. But everyone's ticket gets pulled at some point.. Oh sweet memories. Thanks for sharing Rick
And he also kicked it with the Mann himself. Never seen these before. Alot of leg and 2 into 1's in this first pic. Suspiciously looks like Bruce Parrish 2nd from back.
David Mann on Buzzards previously owned bike in front of his home
These were some of my favorites. Rick's late buddy "Fat George".

"What!? I didnt know.."

Years ago my buddy Nick and I were in Mississippi at my grandfathers house, in between meeting with my dad to start our trip to New York to go see Levon Helm. So the trip already had a high point and we were killing time exploring around Natchez. While driving back to my grandfathers place not 4 miles away, we spotted these two ponies on the side of the road. Now at the time, i think i was riding a XS400 and Nick had a suzuki or something, guys back home already shovels and sportsters and I was aware these were some chopper worthy bikes. I snapped a pic with my Razor phone and sent it to Nick back in Birmingham. A Panhead and a generator shovel, both sitting in original wishbone frames. The guy that owned the store that these were parked in front of said they were his sons, he was a flipper and a deal maker of anything apparently, and these just happen to be something he was flipping from another trade. Wanted a whopping 3K for the whole pile. I dont think I had even held that much at the time. Now, you couldnt get me to the bank quick enough. Needless to say, we carried out our New York road trip and never saw these again. I did however stop by this guys place a couple years ago and ask the store owner what happened to them. he said his son bought and sold so much stuff that there's no way he would even remember.. Nick found this pic on the Haints blog and I had completely forgot I even took one. Just thought I would share. Not every day you see pre 70's Harleys parked on the side of the road for sale. apparently they are only hiding in barns.

MEET ME IN THE CITY

Duane and I frequently reminisce on small events sprinkled throughout the year we used to go to. Some no longer happen, and some have changed too much, so we began cooking up a little humble event right in downtown. Family affair. Come if you can, have a burnt hot dog with a cold soda pop and check out some eye candy.

Oldies

Couple more pics from the previous post, except these came from the little guy sitting on the trike below. This is his older brother in the pics and he is still kicking. I have arranged to get together with the two of them to shoot the shit and see some more old pics. Enjoy.
